SciGirls II Day 6 - Florida Caverns/Blue Springs

Happy Monday! SciGirls II had another amazing day! It started bright and early at the Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna, Fl. We took a cave tour, but since the power was out at the facility, the girls got a true cave experience with no light! We got to take a "flashlight tour," (which we find out actually costs more and is reserved for Fridays and Saturdays!) Girls were entranced with the stalagmites, stalactites, and all the beautiful and natural formations. Our tour guide, Jessica, was fantastic and kept all of us engaged. We all even learned something new about the caverns and got to see first hand how sinkholes develop underground! About halfway through the tour, the power came back on, but we were sure to get many pictures both with and without the lights on! After the caverns, we drove to Blue Springs State Park, also in Marianna, Fl. The water was crystal clear and beautiful! After a lovely picnic lunch, we all donned our bathing suits and enjoyed the scenery and COLD water! Girls had fun sliding into the water and jumping off the diving board. Some of our girls even brought snorkeling gear and goggles to view the underwater sights. It truly was a beautiful day! A trip to Marianna, Fl is not complete without visiting SciGirls favorite frozen yogurt joint, Milk and Honey! After our girls covered their yogurt with ooo-gobs of toppings, girls enjoyed watching Monsters, Inc and/or playing Uno while enjoying their yogurt treat! Tomorrow is another fun filled day where our SciGirls will learn about radio and television broadcasting at WFSU and will also go to The Florida Center for Interactive Media (FCIM) to learn how to and create an app!
