Sci Girls I Day Four

Grow Where You Are! These are the words offered to Sci-Girls by Sundiata, our very knowledgeable host to our introduction on vermicomposting during our visit to the Fresh From Florida Garden located at the Holland Building. This was truly a great experience as the girls were able to interact in the garden that is designed to mimic the "My Plate" which establishes proper portion sizes for daily meals. A very special thanks to Brittany Lord for coordinating this awesome visit that also included a talk with a registered dietician and "Garden Bingo". Needless to say this was a warm morning outside, so we then ventured down to Cascades Park for lunch and a quick run through the splash pad followed by a trip to Nuberri(the perfect way to cool off). We then dashed back to the Maglab to enjoy a presentation by Lori Nzekwe, a pharmaceutical scientist. Not only did she offer a peek into a career in pharmacy, but she also provided an opportunity to experiment with the effect of particle size on rate of reaction. There wasn't a lot of plopping, but definitely an extreme amount of fizz. Day four was over before we knew it. Look out Wakulla Springs, after we do a little digging in the morning, we'll be ready to do a little swimming.
