SciGirls I 2015 Day Three

Warren Buffett said, “Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”  How can we dispute this claim after viewing and basking under the magnificent foliage found at Tall Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy.  Don’t let the word "research" fool you, as the majestic beauty of this property is breathtaking.  With over 4,000 protected acres, Tall Timbers is a widely regarded information resource for the areas of fire ecology, game bird management, vertebrate ecology and forestry.  Activities for today included radio telemetry to track quail (a large bag of candy), bird collaring of a Bachman Sparrow (we named him George Steven Twitter), and a little bit of snake handling.  We tip our Sci Girls hats to Georgia, Kim, Cassie, Diana, Mary, and Jim.   BUT WAIT!!!! That was only the morning because M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E was waiting for us back at the Maglab. Ooops! That was wrong, but we were so close.  Shouts out to Disney Imagineer MK Haley who extended an awesome opportunity to the Sci Girls this year.  Her task for the Sci Girls was simple:  Challenges are everywhere, but remember to complete the task that has been assigned to you.  She filled the afternoon with anecdotes of wisdom and the Marshmallow Challenge to uncover the benefits of scientists who learn to work together through cooperation, listening, and patience.  What a fantastic way to end the day.   Sci Girls are taking over and ready to get our HOWL on!
