SciGirls I 2015 Day Seven

What a day we have had! The morning started with a visit to the machine shop in the Maglab. Here we learned a little bit about the production of pieces that are actually used in the Maglab through additive or subjective manufacturing. Additive refers to controlled material addition and subtractive is just the opposite - controlled material removal. Vaughan Williams and Morgan Oliff gave us our first behind the scenes look at the 3d printer used at the lab. The second behind the scenes look tok place at the highly selective HPMI building. Jerry Horne welcomed us to the High Performance Materials Institue. Needless to say we were impressed while visiting his work lab/ office that contains 4 3d printers. Do you know you can print an actual microscope that would be completely functional in the classroom with a 3d printer? Just check out Thingiverse at makerbot.com. That was just the beginning. After we took a short mini break to enjoy cake with our birthday Sci Girl - thanks Laura Mae, an afternoon trek took us back across the street to the Florida Center for Interactive Media where we put our minds, faces, fingers, and voices to work.....Sci Girls I created a video game using Dreamweaver.....SciGirls 2015. We created our own levels, provided voice overs, and took happy and sad face pictures that were all imported into the game. Use the link fcim6.fcim.org/scigirls2015/group2 and you will see why Sci Girls 2015 Rule!!!!!! As always, Andrew, Cody, Whitney, Sebastian, Chelsea, Gillian, Stephanie, and Drew provided a completely extra-ordinary afternoon. Take1, Take2, Take3.....cut....don't settle for a rerun when you can get a quick spill on our television production tomorrow at WFSU.
