Nothing stopped us today! We started the day being proactive in getting our SciGirls thinking about their future in science. Each girl spent a bit of time doing some research and sketching a display to showcase their future aspirations! We can't wait to see the finished products on Friday at our SciGirls reception!
Then, it was off to the vans to the Florida State Caverns in Marianna, FL! Once we arrived, we had a picnic lunch and perused the education center of the caverns before it was time for our tour. Our tour of the cavern was amazing! All SciGirls were in awe of the beautiful limestone formations. We went from "room" to "room" of the cavern listening as our tour guide told us about the different formations, such as the Christmas tree, wedding cake and organ, and "water"falls. Many times we had to watch our heads and crouch through the narrow passage ways. The sights were beautiful and the girls thoroughly enjoyed the "touching post" where they were finally able to touch a formation!
After the caverns, we went to Blue Springs State Park to cool off in the crystal clear spring water. Our girls had a fantastic time jumping off the diving board, sliding down a water slide, and splashing around, but all too soon it was time to go. No one was upset as we made our way to Marianna's own, "Milk and Honey Frozen Yogurt" shop. The girls chose their yogurt flavor (after lots and lots of tasting) and piled on the toppings! The best part was sitting and watching "Finding Nemo" in 3D while eating our yogurt.
It was a busy, fun-filled, and very educational day! We look forward to tomorrow to dive into science in the media fields as we go to the Florida Center for Interactive Media and WFSU. It's going to be another great day!
