Sci Girls 2 Day 1 Maglab

Yay for first day of Sci Girls 2 Camp! We had a super fun day and enjoyed getting to know each other. The day started with a safety training and then the Sci Girls group pictures outside of the maglab. From there we got the logistical tasks taken care of, including badges and surveys. We moved on to outside activities and tested the pond water behind the maglab for pH, dissolved oxygen levels, nitrogen levels, and turbidity. After a long morning, we took a cool down and met some ladies of science. A special thanks goes to Dr. Amy McKenna, Gillian Canning, Whitney George, and Kelly Pagan for donating their time and expertise to our budding science girls. Then we were able to eat lunch with our science ladies and the girls were able to ask questions about future STEM career choices. We ended the day with a very fun and wet activity called Water Moves at WFSU. The girls used engineering skills as well as learned about the movement of water during this activity. Ask your girls for the details!
Tomorrow we are all looking forward to traveling to Chipley, FL to visit the Seacrest Wolf Preserve. It's going to be a great day! Keep checking our blog to see what our girls are doing on a day to day basis!
