Sci Girls I Day One

What a wonderful way to start Sci Girls I 2013!  We had an exciting day that began with a basic orientation for the campers as they received their official Maglab badges.  For the 2nd Annual "Ladies of Science" Lunch, we were delighted to have the following special guests:  Amy McKenna (NHMFL), Chelsea Wilson (Rethink Energy Florida), Catherine Bray (City of Tallahassee), Whitney George, Chelsea Evans, and Gillian Canning (all from Florida Center for Interactive Media).  The girls had a chance to interact with these women who represented various fields that was representative of the science spectrum.  We were so happy to welcome back Jackie Zimmerman, assisted by Alexis Sailor, from the Department of Environmental Protection who gave the girls a hands-on lesson in water testing that was conducted at the retention pond behind the Maglab.   Jackie led the campers in a discussion of the results that yielded some inconsistencies but that was expected as they exercised their amateur skills.  Make sure you check out our "howling" good time tomorrow as we visit Seacrest Wolf Preserve!
