Is it day four already? A big thank you to Dr. Rachel Barton and her staff at the Animal Service Center. The experience was one to remember as the Sci Girls began with a presentation on the statistics of the pet population of the city of Tallahassee and the services offered by the center followed by a brief tour of the facility. Then it was time to break into groups for the opportunity to learn about zoonotic diseases and participate in a spaying procedure.(Poor little puppies.) This procedure is beneficial both to the animals and the city. Our day ended with a "Vet Detective" session where the girls examined parasites, called for animal rescue, and tested dog samples for heartworms. It is important to note that the ASC takes in over 9,000 homeless animals every year. With kennel space being limited, they rely heavily on community members to open their hearts and homes to providing love and shelter to some of the special animals who are waiting for their forever homes. Sci Girls urges you to take a look at this amazing organization! We almost forgot to announce the Water Rocket winners - Congratulations Thunderbirds!
