SciGirls II 2015 Day 5: Havana Rock Quarry and Wakulla Springs

How is it that the first week is officially over?! It sure has flown by. Week One of SciGirls IIended with a trip to the Rock Quarry to search for different fossils that existed millions of years ago. A special thank to Mr. Howard Kirk who is always willing  to take on a group of 32 young ladies with consistent questions about the items that are uncovered on the different mounds.  We got really lucky today and unearthed shark teeth, manatee bones, stingray teeth, and stingray jaw bones.

Next on our itinerary was Wakulla Springs. Normally, we go straight to ice-cream and swimming but today we were treated to a short talk with another female scientists, a hydrologist. We did manage to get some playtime in and we  ended the day with a boat tour of this wildlife refuge where Captain Dan served as our tour guide.  We saw a TON of alligators, anhingas, egrets, blue herons, and so much more!  We even saw two manatees; FYI did you know that the gestation period of manatees is 13 months?

Can't wait till Monday! Drop-off at 8:45 and pick-up 4:15 :) Bring a swimsuit and money for ice-cream!
