SciGirls 2 2014: Day 2-Seacrest Wolf Preserve

Woohoo for day two! SciGirls enjoyed a super unique, exciting experience at the Seacrest Wolf Preserve. Girls started the day visiting the small animal enclosure where girls enjoyed really close interactions with skunks, raccoons, and foxes...and no, we still don't know what a fox says :) Girls enjoyed holding and petting a mama and baby skunk. Also, students fed raccoons almonds from the palms of their hands. Girls enjoyed petting foxes and having them crawl across their laps. From the small animal enclosure we took a lunch break and were surprised with a visit from a baby wolf. Girls had the opportunity to go into a small area with the pup in groups of four. Next stop on our tour was the large animal enclosure. We got up close and personal with gray wolves, one of the wolves even got a belly rub! We learned about wolf dens and howled along with our furry friends. We also stopped by the arctic wolves, white in color, which helps them camouflage in the snow. Surprisingly, these wolves were able to function quite well in Florida heat; we learned that all wolves are naturally found in cooler climates, so they all have to adjust to the Florida heat at the preserve. Today was a great day for our campers, and all girls are looking forward to tomorrow at the tree-to-tree adventures at the Tallahassee Museum.
